spare clothes for all. pacifier or feed during takeoff and landing to help pop the ears as the pressure changes
But don’t feed when taxiing. That could mean they drink all the milk before takeoff. Start feeding when the plane starts going fast.
Top tip - fuck everyone else. No one has it harder on a flight than a parent. You hear your child’s cry 10X compared to others. And then there’s always the undeniable truth that everyone was a baby once!
If you relax, they will relax. Cut yourself a break. Seriously.
Honestly it’s not that hard at that age. It gets much worse when they want to be mobile and don’t enjoy being held for hours
Good luck!
Yessss... just did 5.5hrs with a 2 year old 🥺
Your kiddo may cry and you might feel anxious or bad about the noise disturbing other passengers. We flew to Europe with our 15 month old recently and we noticed two things when we looked around during his fit 1) most people are plugged in with headphones on. 2) a lot of people give you the knowing look that they’ve been there.
Good luck!
You’ll probably never see these people again. And most are smart enough to travel with headphones.
Don’t worry about it and enjoy the family time
As a weekly traveler, I never check a bag and got my wife to do the same for our couple trips. We attempted to do carry ons and gate check the stroller and car seat on our first flight with a 3 month old last week. We will no longer do that again. Checked bags it is. A PITA trying to finagle bags and a baby onboard, plus you have to wait for your stroller. Bags will be at carousel by that time.
We have the Pocket stroller. On United, it doesn’t count against the carry on limit.
We carried on everything sans the car seat for a week long vacation. IMO, the less time in transit with the kiddo, the better. Gate checking the car seat doesn’t take that long and we divide and conquer. I also have a rad car seat backpack for +100 mobility!
Change the diaper just before boarding. Order an alcoholic beverage when the cart comes by. Don’t stress
How long is the flight?
Only 2 hours
Triple check you have your family’s personal belongings (wallet, phone, stuffed animals, wife’s sunglasses) before you leave the plane.
I made little goodie bags for the people around us the first time we flew with our baby girl. Thank you/sorry note with some chocolates and ear buds. We somehow lost track of time and got on the plane dead last and didn’t hand them out.
Flight went fine... don’t over stress it. Best advise was already noted in previous replies. You’ll be fine and if not, who cares.
my 20 month old probably has around 50k miles under her belt. everyone here has great tips. don't over stress, feed the baby on ascent/descent, have fun with him and don't try to shut em up, have 1-2 backup outfits in your baby bag, favorite books/Teddy and you'll be fine.
keep the kid fed and dry.
