EY1, OP clearly asked for help in how to meaningfully connect and I gave ideas 🤷🏽♀️ just saying family is family won’t help him/her much
Drawing parallels to your job, think about it as getting to know a new client or team member on a personal level. The topics may be different based on what generation you talk to (uncles/aunts vs cousins).
Some topics could be:
1. What do they do for work. How is work these days. How’re the people. Any politics at work...
2. How is school. What courses do they enjoy the most. What do they want to do in life
3. How’re things at home. How’re things with the economy.
4. How’s their health. Do they go for regular health check ups. Is healthy eating a fad there as well.
The key is probe deeper and remember the details during your next conversation.
How would you like people to get to know you? Leverage that. And also remember to open up from your end too. Good luck!
^ all due respect to D1 here, you don’t need a business plan or checklist with family. Family is family, you’re already in. Don’t know if you speak the language , but get on WhatsApp group. Like I said, family is all about sharing moments. Share pics with them ..wish them on birthdays..wish them on festivals etc etc. Just don’t try too hard
The key is Rajini and CSK. U can talk about both these topics with anyone in the street.
Vaazgha tamizh.
, India. I'm 27 and live in the US. I want to be able to have meaningful connections with my uncles, aunts and cousins. The time I spend there is so limited, I'm not sure if I can ever get close with them. Any suggestions?
Agree with EY1. It you are honestly trying to get to know your family and get close to them, they will see it. Based on individual personalities you can always find something to connect.
