I’m keeping my name but I have two last names (where I come from you get the names of each parent) and legally it is not hyphened and on official legal documents this has never been an issue. But at work or socially I hyphen it because otherwise a lot of folks think the first last name is my middle name (i dont have one). My parents did the same growing up too. Slightly different but offers some perspective!
Thank you! It’s nice hearing others with the same kind of situation. My son and I share the same last name and if I were to change mine, then he wouldn’t have the same last name as either of his biological parents which doesn’t make sense. I think it’s best I just add on the last name so we can still share the last name, also makes it easier legally with not having to prove he’s my son.
I kept my middle name, and added my spouse's to my last name (Mine-Theirs). At work I go by "First Mine-Theirs". Not super complicated, just have to update last name on legal docs.
My name is kinda long now (First Middle Mine-Theirs), but I don't mind. Its whatever makes you happy!
At work I didn't bother changing my email because I've had it for so long. I created a new email address for personal usage, and it's firstminetheirs@domain. Didn't care to include my middle or the hyphen cause it was already so much 😂
