Those of you who have quit your job without another lined up or have been laid off, what do you do with all the free time? I’m in week 2 and am losing my mind. I don’t really have any fall hobbies either.

Those who know, know BDO!

Personally haven’t, but as someone who frequently fantasizes about this situation: try my hand at starting a business, actually stick to my gym schedule, spend more time with my SO, see how long I can make it as a house husband, go for hikes, train my dog to do advanced tricks, take up surfing again, visit friends in other cities, play video games like I’m in college again.

There’s so much to do outside of the 9-5.

Did you want to be a partner and it never panned out with all the changes? That’s a long time. Looking to leave cause I am a manager and I just don’t see becoming partner. Seems way harder and a lot more hoops than in decades past. That being said to your question. I would make a list of all the things you have wanted to do and haven’t been able to. And then rank the list by most important and then start working on it. A mix of fun and chores so that you can unwind but also be productive.

Just take a break, doing nothing is wonderful 😂

During WWII a brilliant engineer found a way to encrypt radio transmissions, which led to the wireless network we use today. Who? Hedy Lamarr (yes, THAT Hedy Lamarr, the actress). A pretty face does not have to mean a lack of intelligence!

I have just recently accepted a position as Director of Compliance at a Fin-Tech company here in Naples, FL.. My previous 17 YOE were strictly in the Financial industry. Does anyone know what the average salary is for this position? I have a sinking feeling that I accepted the role too quickly without comparing salaries. The position only pays $50k/year. That seems low to me.

I’ve practiced litigation in DC for about 5+ years at a larger plaintiffs’ firm, and am considering a switch to a defense firm. Is there any insight to how many billable hours this would require, and how much time that would actually be? For reference, the firm has a 1900 billable hour requirement and the partner said I would have “no problem” fulfilling that based on the work they have.

Growing up was rough. On my 8th birthday my dad had an accident that led to this death a few days later. He was a good man who took care of us all (I had 3 siblings now 2; lost 1 few years ago). I'm in a good place in life right now I only find myself in the last 5years shedding a tear once a while when I'm alone. It startles me because I was a tough kid who didn't cry and just soaked it all in and rolled with it. I'm almost 40 and can't explain what's happening with these tears.
