It all depends on the opportunity, there are some companies that are great and some are not. Do your research, take your time and find an opportunity that fits your requirement. I think a lot of times people are burned out and take the first opportunity and that may not be a good fit. Also, the worst comes to worse and you bounce again and if nothing works you can come back to PA.
KPMG1 hit it on the head. I have colleagues who left big4 after a few years and are doing wonderfully now. I also have a couple who boomeranged back and will probably make partner in the next couple years.
My advice is to find someone who's done both and is very successful and see if they'll be willing to have a chat.

Might be worth switching lines of service first.
I didn't enjoy industry even though I was at a great company with fantastic benefits and work life balance. Annual comp increases were terrible and upward mobility was non existent because no one and I mean no one ever left that place. I swear we had a person celebrating 40 years of service literally every week I was there.
