Does back biting exist in consulting?
EY, I got my Roth IRA contributions set to max (30%). Does Fidelity automatically lower the % and stop contributions afterwards once I reach my 2022 limit?
Also at Deloitte, I had a couple thousand contributed in the beginning of the year. Does EY's 401k keep track of that as well towards the limit?

A&M has a lot of divisions which operate largely independent of one another. Comp philosophy, WLB, culture, etc. is influenced heavily by the leaders of those individual divisions and even the business units within them. All that to say, my experience in TAX may be very different than that of someone in NACR, PEPI, etc. and outside generalizations are even less relevant.
Personally, I find Tax and my BU in particular to be a generally good place to work - culture is supportive, I'm happy with my growth, etc. I'm generally working 50-60 hours a week and that's on the higher side, but I also know my bonus and progression has been higher than average too. No layoffs or pay cuts during the pandemic and generally feel very stable.
People who leave generally don't like the demanding pace, the lack of special perks/benefits, or working for one or more challenging personalities.
Also in Tax, would say total comp is better depending on collection with base salary about the same as Big4. Resources and perks are limited. People can be hard to deal with. Wish A&M can create a supportive environment for working/expecting moms.
Love it here so far
I had consulting but not straight m&a.
I had projects that were 40-45. I had some that are 50-55 so very project dependent.
Travel is also project dependent. I was fortunate to not travel much in the recent year (2-3 times)
The biggest pro is also the biggest con: for most roles the total comp is a function of billable hours.
For an average to great year: awesome
For a slow year: limited to the lower base
This also means that you’re disincentivized to take advantage of the unlimited PTO. Longer parental leave? Less pay. It’s great to know you’re compensated for every hour you bill, but that also means if you’re not working you’re not earning.
My two cents from the outside looking in. Appreciate better informed responses from A&M folks
Totally agree! If OP is female and looking to start a family, A&M is not the firm for you. You’re looking to collect base and minimal to none bonus, in the year you take maternity leave. It’s 12 weeks where some other firms offer 16 weeks plus STD of upto 3 weeks.
All good input
I have decided after reading some of this I won’t apply here. That has nothing to do with A&M as a whole, I just can’t get behind the comp structure at this point in my life
Thanks to all who contributed
Horrendous interview process
M2 how do you like it? Have interviews coming up… how’s wlb?

Come to Alix. Hard work but people are chill and I haven’t run into any psychopaths yet (I’m sure they exist)
I don't know what you mean by that? I'm a Data Scientist in my role at work if that's what you're referring to.
Just like any firm, culture probably changes from office to office. I’ve had a good impression overall.
WLB is decent. It’s consulting so it’s never going to be great but I’d rate it the same or slightly better than most. Also depends on project/team - I’ve had some that are very mindful of WLB and a handful that were unnecessarily brutal
The comp structure is obviously the biggest plus. In a busy year you’ll make significantly more here than you can pretty much anywhere else. In a slow year you might make the same as elsewhere or maybe a little less but WLB would obviously be much better in that case
What does brutal mean in terms of hours per week?
Could anyone comment on A&M life science, healthcare or bioPharma group? There’s been several posts but no one replies
Any insight into CPI practice?
👀
I think it depends on what practice and office you are in like any other firm. I’m in TAG NY and think the culture is great. They really seem to care about the team. Obviously the nature of the work makes WLB challenging but that is at every firm you work at
Agree on WLB, the expectation from MDs is hard to meet. Prepare to work a lot all year round.
To note, much of the culture is also BU/SL/Group dependent.
CPI is very different from NACR, and not only is it reflected in their cultures, but their compensation.
could you elaborate the differences?
Would love to hear about the public sector service line at A&M if anyone has insights!
Any insight into transferring practices?
Anyone cares to comment about culture?
It’s a boys club culture with tone deaf leaders who focus too much on collections.

I realize this definitely differs by BU, but how well does A&M do a developing people?
Specifically, what infrastructure exists for those who are hungry to get better all the time?
A&M3 what BU are you in? Can DM if too private
