If you are in your 20s, not from NYC and can afford a place big enough for you - DO IT!
Depends on the lifestyle you’re looking for. As a sweeping generalisation, people move to the NYC for the energy, social atmosphere and the nightlife. Fidi isn’t the best known neighbourhood for that.
Good spot but you’ll have to taxi to the fun spots
Very quiet on the weekends
Nearly every subway in the city converges somewhere in FiDi.
Just don’t live at 20 Exchange Place
Thanks for the explanation - that is terrible.
I did it for a year solo and loved it!

You can get some nice luxury buildings cheaper than elsewhere. Good train connectivity. Basically no nightlife and the bars are really only happy hour bars for people working down there. Good train connectivity. Poor grocery store options. I’d prob live elsewhere for first spot so you can easily walk to or be in the action
Fidi was great. Lots of young people, access to all the trains, some fun spots like Stone St and the Seaport. I loved it there
i live in fidi with my girlfriend, and we never want to leave. you can get to literally anywhere in the city because there are 4 train lines accessible here. not a lot of noise pollution which is nice too. battery park and the west river give you some easily accessible nature. it’s a no brainier in my opinion
Yea if you can afford the rent, nyc is making me cry
2k for hells. I share my place. 1bed is unaffordable so is studio.
Lived here for 15+ years and absolutely love it.
I moved there as a 23 year old and honestly it was perfectly adequate. Close proximity to both the red and green line, walking distance to my job, clean, safe. Only draw back is that there’s not a huge nightlife scene there and tourists but that’s not always a bad thing. Most of my time at that age was spent in the LES, Soho, or Tribeca so honestly it was a great experience.
Fidi was already a ghost town pre COVID response
Now it’s a cemetery. Avoid
