I have an initial recruiter phone interview with Square Thursday. Is it it just a phone call or is it a video call and they didn’t specify. If it’s a video call what’s the dress code like? I’m coming from consulting so all my interviews were in suits. Any tips to get past the recruiter phone screen?

Ex-consultant on the investing side. Yes, ops teams are a distinct second to the investing team. (Not related, but I get so much questioning and skepticism about my technical ability coming from a consulting background). Would avoid (except for maybe KKR Capstone).
The Vault at L Catterton seems like a solid group of folks.

Vista consulting group not that great let me know if you are looking something specific.
Okay yeah... I think the specifics are:
Do they just run the playbook by-and-large?
And what are your metrics that cause you to say “not great”? i.e. caliber/prestige of team; compensation; challenging/interesting work; etc.
Thanks!
I will list out the pros and cons of Vista Equity partners - consulting arm:
Pros: focus on tech focus which is supported by three funds they have small, mid and large totally to 31b USD
Cons: less creativity they already have playbooks defined so value creation group operates just within those guidelines with minimal deviation; specially doing consulting with MBB you get to experience different projects/ cases where your creativity is challenged .
If you are ready to do similar kind of work I would not go for it and most important the investment arm is always given first class treatment vs consulting group which is second grade in the firm.
Very helpful, thanks EM1.
Would you say the dynamic of “Investment = 1st class, and Value Creation = 2nd class" is worse than other comparable PE Ops groups, or just an inherent fact of the industry?
It’s inherent fact of PE — if you looking for money people think carry is too much but only at Managing director / Principal level if you are doing PE ops role ; I did both MBB and PE ops role been on both side of coin; I would stay with MBB just because of creativity of projects and varied experience and working with people who think alike.
Thanks all, very helpful..
@A1: What makes you separate out KKR Capstone from the rest, in your point about 2nd-class status? What makes you believe that is not the case at KKR?
OP have you considered Golden Gate? My understanding is that they have a large number of ex-bain people there. Invus is probably worth a look also. They have long holding periods making operations more important. I've chatted with a number of ex-McKinsey preople there.
