South Africa is amazing! You won’t regret it. Where are you planning on visiting?
It’s a long flight. I’ve done it multiple times. South African Airways is great, but I don’t think they fly from Atlanta. Try KLM or Air France via Europe, both airlines are delta partners. You can also look into Emirates or Etihad. Both are decent.
You could do a ton with $8k in SA. I would personally put up with a few hours of misery and do some amazing stuff in SA. Just my 2 cents.
I stayed at a 3 bedroom 2 bath Airbnb house with a gorgeous view of table mountain and a professional kitchen for 79 a night
I have a shit ton of points and can get you flights for cheap, let's chat
Agree with EY1- never buy full price business. I bet there are crappier airlines with funky connections that can get you there in Haines for much cheaper
Delta is the only direct from ATL. Also the flights there are pricy but once you are there everything is crazy cheap since the USD is so strong. Wine from the best vineyards are like 10 dollars
Be cautious of “tourist” prices. There are plenty of places that are affordable and amazing. Cape Town is incredible and you can find places to stay that are very nice and not $$$.
Really DD1? I was booking hotels in Cape Town, man it's costly. Maybe it's specific items/cities that are cheaper
OP, that’s honeymoon goals right there!
South African Airways (Star Alliance) is the fastest way to get to Jo’Burg, but they only fly out of JFK and DC I guess. Also, definitely make a trip to Kruger National Park! It’s an amazing experience, something I’ll always cherish 😊
Only three direct flights to JNB from US: JFK, ATL, and Dulles. The Dulles flight refuels in Senegal one or both directions (or used to anyways). Other option is via Europe, which could get you straight Cape Town.
There are usually very cheap deals on AF/KL from Canada (Toronto, Montreal) to SA. Got business class for ~$2400 r/t once. You just need to be flexible with dates
If you hit diamond you get 4 global upgrades. Buy an economy fare and upgrade.
The folks above are right, easiest thing for you to do is buy a direct ticket on Delta from ATL to JNB. That said, depending on the credit card miles you have you might be able to find OneWorld availability via Doha on Qatar in business (saver fare should be 75k per ticket each way in biz). Qatar has a flight into and out of ATL so you wouldn’t need to reposition within the US.
