You likely aren’t losing money. By deducting mileage, you just aren’t paying taxes on those dollars. So, if you used to spend, say, $100 on mileage, you weren’t income taxed on that amount., so you saved, let’s say, $30 in taxes. You still spent $70. Now your company is offering to pay you for most of your mileage . Unless the first and last stops of your trip make up more than 70% of your total milage, you are saving money by getting reimbursed. Furthermore, you likely have benefits now (and job security) that are worth more than you are losing in milage.
If you really think you are still losing money, you should negotiate for a higher salary.
You were actually reporting your mileage incorrectly before.
Can you elaborate please? I am considered a remote employee, my office is in my home.
