Was just told by the recruiter from Deloitte during the official offer conversation that non-primary caregiver paid parental leave is 3 weeks???? Still a couple years away, but this is far less than I’d seen.

I (my wife) had a kid this year. It’s 16 weeks. And, doesn’t matter if you’re primary caregiver or not. Push back on the recruiter: “I’ve spoken with friends that work at Deloitte and I’ve been told they receive 16 weeks. Deloitte also receives awards for great family leave policies (google to confirm), has something changed, is Deloitte moving to a 3 week policy? If not, why would I not receive a standard benefit?”

I’ll have to follow up. She’s writing the offer up in the system now. (The turtle pace for the offer approval process is wild). I’ll check to see if they include the benefits details in there.

Recruiters often don’t know what they’re talking about

Recruiter called back, it is 16 weeks.

Just say you’re the primary caregiver then it’s 8 weeks. The mother might go back to work during that time so they can’t stop you from saying you’re the primary caregiver

Aren’t both parents primary caregivers if there are two parents? I’m confused? Why would the parent that does not give birth get less time off than the one that does, besides the obvious sick leave / STD benefits? Huh? I’m a female that just gave birth by the way.

like

Is it project delivery track or delivery center? That sounds right for those two tracks.

For the LGBTQ+ lawyers, if your firm offers reproductive assistance, how did you start the process of planning to start a family? Are there better years as an associate to target having a child? How do you (or should you) approach it with your partner leadership, or should you just dive right in with the HR contacts? Any advice would be really appreciated!

Seeing a fertility doc after having a miscarriage in May and not having success getting pregnant since. They suggested we do IUI but recommended genetic testing, HSG and blood work prior to it. Has anyone had bloodwork done and been told they lost their immunity to MMR and Varicella (Chicken pox)? Being told this puts things on hold for another 3 months to get these vaccines.

I recently lost a parent. It seems so unfair that if this happened during the summer I would only have to pretend to be ok for 40 hours a week, as opposed to now where 60 hours is the expectation.

Expecting a baby this summer. Should I still be looking for other job opportunities? EY has a very generous paternity leave if you’ve been with the firm for 1+ years, but not sure if I would have the same opportunity to take 2-3 months leave if I switch jobs. Can I potentially work parental leave into negotiations?

Went in for a scan yesterday because I was having spotting and cramping at 12 weeks. The OB saw fluid behind the baby’s neck and is referring us to see a high risk doctor immediately. NIPT was negative. I’m panicking. Have any of you been through this?

Any advice for approaching a maternity leave conversation when my company has no policy, no HR dept and I have no contract? I’m underpaid in a very senior 6 yr position, my job is stressful and around the clock, so I want proper leave. I can’t afford childcare and our govt stat leave is terrible, it won’t pay my bills.
