Area near Heathrow isn’t unsafe, but it’s not great. I’d recommend getting on the Piccadilly from Heathrow and staying in between Hammersmith - Earls Court, or slightly further east.
If you’re set in staying near the airport, this is the place for Fish and Chips (amazing hole in the wall) - Tip: get the haddock version

I've stayed at both the Renaissance and Marriott and prefer the Marriott much more than the Renaissance. The Renaissance is an older property and the Marriott has a much better pub.
If you stay at the airport, Windsor is a short drive if you don’t want to go into London. With 24 hours though, you’d be able to easily get into the city and see a few sites.
Put your bags in storage at the airport then go into town with an overnight bag. Heathrow express to Paddington takes 20 mins and perhaps use that area as your base.

As others have said, stay near Paddington station and take Heathrow Express.
Stayed in a Marriott over there, think the Marble Arch one, a few times and it’s worked great for these type of short stays. Area around heathrow is pretty barren honestly.
