I was in the final stages of an interview with Microsoft two weeks ago, in partner marketing. Then the recruiter told me they were putting the hiring process on hold to assess the need for the role. Well, then we heard about Microsoft layoffs last week. Seems like most were in Xbox and Project Alpha but there’s not a lot of information out there. Should I hold out any hope that I’m going to get this job? Any insights on how much these layoffs have impacted the marketing org and/or new hiring?

In the ‘90s in start ups my bosses would eat lunch while meeting with me but not vice versa. I thought it was rude back then and still do. But mores have changed and all sorts of courtesies have been dismissed as old school and there is very little in the way of respecting setting an example
Because I understand that people need to eat? Regardless of time zone? Do you even hear yourself, or is your reading comprehension simply non-existent?
Why are you holding meetings when people need to eat lunch?
Just start the meeting by acknowledging that people are on different time zones and that if they need to eat while on the call, could they just switch their cameras off.
Pro
I'll eat when i'm on team calls but not clients or partners. Remote work has gotten out of control with calls all day long and thus I'll eat when I please. Sometimes I go camera on, sometimes off.
Why don't you stop scheduling meetings during lunch? They're telling you something.
You keep saying it but so you know, nobody gives a shit that you "work internationally." Probably 90% of the people here do too. And given that, it should be no surprise that people, internationally, still need to eat. JFC.
I worked in Corp in the Midwest. When the company wide meetings were held. We had the east coast, west coast, and Midwest - ALL on the call. And sometimes you HAVE to eat. If I wasn’t presenting - I’d just turn my camera off and mute and have my lunch. The only thing I’d do on Canera is sip water or
coffee. I just find it personally uncomfortable to be eating on Camera. So I wouldn’t say it is rude- because the meeting might have been scheduled during their lunch time and they have back to back meetings. But I’d also say that it is a personal preference and generally a good idea to take yourself off camera while you have a mouth full of food and a potential spinach stuck on your front teeth!
Utter nonsense.
Why does it matter?
Pro
I would say because eating is a personal behaviors and it breaks up the flow of conversation. I don’t think it is particularly professional either to eat on a call. I think it’s fine if someone says I’m going off Camera to eat. If you wouldn’t bring your lunch into a meeting in the office, you shouldn’t be eating on camera.
Why aren't you allowing your staff to eat outside of the meeting time?
Except for the part where it's totally normal human behavior to eat at the same time each day, sure.
They're probably too busy grinding for the company to have a proper lunch break.
