What absurd thing is shown on TV/movies that least portrays the accurate picture of law enforcement? Something that probably made you cringe or laugh at how bad it was.

Shooting people in the hand or legs…people watch that and then question why we aim for center mass. Also, how fast the DNA is processed. Hollywood cops make it tough on the mortal ones.

The DNA is so spot on! I cannot help myself but cringe whenever I watch something like this.

Shooting at the vehicle during a pursuit. Are we in the 60s?

When plain clothes detective waltzes in with his little pistol drawn before the tactic team. What’s the point of having the big guns and heavy armor there to soak up rounds if you’re just gonna stroll in first with your handgun anyways?

That it's ok to tamper with evidence as long as you're entirely sure that he's the bad guy. Also why is chain of custody more of a suggestion than a rule?

Ohh! Shooting in the legs to immobilize them. Some are just a bunch of exaggerated scenes.

I just started meds yesterday and the change in my focus and attention to detail is mind blowing. My only concern is, just yesterday I had a tough feedback session with my manager around how I’m taking too long to complete my work, giving them anxiety around close deadlines. I’m new in the job (3 months in). Should I explain anything about my adhd to my manager or just wait for them to notice the change in me?

Advice: my firm incentivized associates to get licensed in fed courts - 4 fed courts for a 5k raise. They also covered the admission fee. I just accepted an offer with another firm and will be putting in my 2 weeks notice tomorrow. Is it wrong to submit an expense report for the charges I incurred related to the fed court admission fees? I didn’t plan on moving to another firm; the new firm sought me out and made me an offer - the process happened so fast. I want to be professional about this.

I just accepted an offer in writing. The new job will start the background check next which I’ve been told it may take a while to complete. My start date at the new job isn’t until 2023 so there is some time for me to turn in my notice. I don’t anticipate any hiccups in the background check but is it wise to wait until the background check is complete before turning in my notice?

I am currently a civil engineer thinking of switching to software engineering. I got my masters in water resource engineering where I was coding a decent amount for assignments and it has really stuck with me. Unfortunately, in my current role and field (civil), I don’t really get to do much coding. Does anyone have a similar experience of jumping ship to do software engineering? What would be the best way to go about it (coding bootcamp, another degree, something else)?
