I just started meds yesterday and the change in my focus and attention to detail is mind blowing. My only concern is, just yesterday I had a tough feedback session with my manager around how I’m taking too long to complete my work, giving them anxiety around close deadlines. I’m new in the job (3 months in). Should I explain anything about my adhd to my manager or just wait for them to notice the change in me?

I would just do the latter. Best case scenario you will improve and the manager will think you’re are really responsive to coaching.

likesmart

I personally wouldn't tell them about my diagnosis yet but maybe when I'm ready and would really need assistance. But for now, I would go for the latter as well. It's a win-win situation for the both of you but more on you because it will really boost your performance and your boss will see how you take your job seriously.

Is being slow in output an ADHD thing? I feel like even on stimulants I’m slow in producing output. Anyone else get this?

I guess I meant like taking 2 hours to do a 30m task? If you were told to find market size of something, I find it difficult to find an 80/20 answer, seem to end up going full on

I would mention that you had some health issues that were distracting you and that's why you took longer. but you've started a new medication and already noticing the change. I wouldn't go into detail that it is ADHD.

on a separate note please spend time researching coping mechanisms or having an ADHD coach or therapist. Having meds helps tremendously if you know how to control where to apply your focus. I've deep cleaned my house and done things that didn't really need to be done while i had work piling up while taking meds.

helpful

I can relate to deep cleaning the house while I had work piling up! Thanks for the tips, will look up coping strategies. I had no idea 🤷🏻‍♀️ this was a thing.

Just wait around to see if the first week on meds makes a difference on your performance in the office. If it still stays the same, please do have a talk with your manager about your condition so they know why you're taking a bit longer with your expected outcome.

helpful

To clarify - your feedback about being too slow concerns the 1 day you took meds or was concerned with past 3 months and just happened to coincide with day 1 of meds?

He’s saying it concerns the past 3 months, but now that he’s on meds, he thinks he can perform better. (Didn’t mean to assume gender)

like

Hello. You can mention about it. You can also add that you're currently on medication.

529 Plan VERSUS Prepaid

We live in Florida and currently have a Freshman in High School and a 16 month old. We hear from our friends and family with college bound children "I wish we would have done Florida PrePaid." After obviously ignoring this for years, we are finally trying to do it before "it's too late" for both children.

Does anyone have recommendations on which plan to go with for each child? I once did the pros and cons on a whiteboard and it seemed like 529 was better.

Hi! Does anyone know what kind of knowledge is needed to crack the Data Scientist interview at Google?

I'm currently working in Marketing Analytics (primarily using SQL and a bit of pyspark). Apart from mastering SQL, I wanted to know from people working at Google what does it take to get there as a Data Scientist? (I'm very interested in Strategy Ops)

I plan to another 6-8 months in preparation and upskilling myself before I even apply.
Any help and guidance is appreciated! Thanks :)

Anyone a manager? I’m recently diagnosed (26F) and I can’t help but beat myself up everytime I fall short of my to do list. Makes me feel like a huge disservice to my team. I’ve been trying vitamin D and working out, but it makes my “highs” and “low” SO extreme. The simplest things are so complex in my mind.

If anyone feels similar, how do you manage these feelings? I’m personally considering switching to an individual contributor role, but can’t help but feel like a disappointment if I do.

I know I’m not alone that people don’t want to return to the office. My ADHD and the open office just makes working from the office a nightmare and I’m feeling really nervous and kind of resentful.
