What are the big differences between big/small agencies? I have worked at two small agencies over the past 4 years (under 50 employees total), wondering what to expect if I make the jump to a big one.

Having worked at both big and small, here is my assessment:
Big agencies = bureaucracy and politics but the pay and benefits tend to be better. Small agencies = better culture and the ability to be more nimble but the pay tends to be less. It’s really easy to get lost at a big agency and have less impact but if you can stomach the politics, the upward career trajectory is better and you’ll be better off financially. On the flip side, culture is important and smaller agencies may build your portfolio faster with more interesting work. (Not to say you can’t do great work at a big agency)

Agree with SVP Strategy above. The other thing I’ll add is that at smaller agencies you’ll get a chance to work on a lot of different types of projects. Bigger agencies tend to have very specific swim lanes. You have your job and you do your job, and you don’t do somebody else’s job.

Better pay, worse benefits. Bigger opportunities, smaller chance of touching them. Marginally better hours, but treated with less respect. More layers. More bureaucracy. Less fun perks.

Bureaucracy.

I've become really jaded about consulting. I find all so often you need to tell the client what they want to hear to keep their business and I feel like so much of the what I recommend doesn't actually get implemented. I'm looking to make a career switch so I can both create and execute on my strategies. A product management path seems very promising for this.

Does anyone who switched from consulting to product management have any recommendations of h helpful PM books, courses, or programs?

Have others found it hard to transition from Audit to Financial Analyst? All the recruiters I’m meeting with are telling me I probably won’t get an interview since they’re looking for someone who’s ready to hit the ground running.
It’s discouraging because I’m a fast learner, and from talking to my friends who are Financial Analysts, it doesn’t seem like what we do is so dissimilar.

I took a product management course this year and it felt really good and different from the day to day of Talent Acquisition but I couldn’t help but wonder if it was the wrong time for this considering the state of tech. Hi guys,

I switched 20 days back to Optum. I have 7 years of experience working as a full stack Engineer, who is passionate working on both front end and back end on latest technologies. But my project is working only on back end with 10 years old tech stack. There is no front end work at all. What should I do?
I don't like working here at all, but I am not sure whether moving out again in a month will give bad Impression on my resume. Hence please give me advice on this situation

I see a lot of people saying that product managers don’t make as much as engineering managers, which is probably true at the middle management levels, but at the Director/VP levels it seems like product pulls way ahead. I’m trying to pivot from my current engineering manager position but want to make sure that I’m not making the wrong move. Opinions? Also, I don’t really care about prestige, since it seems like alot of people call that out on posts.

Considering joining a small 50-person company as the only attorney (prior attorney is retiring). (I am currently in-house at a F50). For others who have done the same path, what surprises did you have when moving from a large company to a small one?

For example, it sounds like I should not expect a document management system, based on a prior post in this bowl. I’m guessing expenses like state bar fees and cell phone are not reimbursed.

Any advice on things to expect (or not expect)?
