What are the differences and similarities of copywriting at an ad agency vs. a branding agency?
The reason I ask: I feel unfulfilled in my current role as a direct-response copywriter at a tech company and am thinking through next steps. I crave coming up with creative ideas and concepting with a close-knit team. I also appreciate brand strategy (I started as a junior strategist at an agency before realizing I belong on the other side of the brief).
Thanks in advance!!

Ad agencies also do branding. Branding agencies are rarely good at ads

Ad agencies you come up with lots of ideas to solve one problem. Branding you come up with one or two big brand platforms and apply it through voice.

The ratio of designers to art directors in branding is about 10:1 so I usually work with 3-5 on a project, vs at an agency where I had 1 AD partner

Sounds like you should go to agency

Yeah but be prepared to take a back seat to designers in a branding shop. It’s not like working with Art Directors who are used to partnering up. Odds are they prefer working alone vs teaming up with a writer

Direct response is where the money is though.

Do you pay your credit cards in full every month?

I ask because I’ve let my credit spending get a bit lax since moving and adopting a puppy recently, so I haven’t been paying them off in full every month like I used to (though still well above the minimum payment, and keeping utilization at 30% or under). It got me thinking about how many people adhere to this advice.
