I’d expect a director to be able to run almost on their own. They could execute a workshop, conduct annual planning, etc with oversight from me. I’d expect them to be able to produce client ready deliverables that tell a cohesive story and help guide work across other groups by asking smart questions. A Senior strategist would be able to produce good work under the guidance of a director+, do comprehensive research and synthesize that into working insights and produce a good project brief. They would have client visibility and have good presentation skills but it would be primarily support function vs lead- unless it’s on a smaller client where a little more freedom can be given. I will also say, I don’t promote into the next role until you can do that job. You’ve got to learn in the role before and earn the title once I know you are 90% of the way there.
Great answer
More leadership and oversight from the director and less of the actual day to day doing

The infographic he created is especially helpful
Senior strategists answers a brief. A director creates / defines a brief.
Also a director is different in uk vs us. As in the uk director =vp
