What type of “entertainment law”? This needs to be stickied at the top of this bowl: entertainment is an industry sector not a type of law.
With that being said, the main larger players that have dedicated entertainment groups are are Loeb, DWT, Frankfurt Kernit, Pryor Cashman. Proskauer for sports.
There are other large firms that have a hand in servicing media & entertainment clients but it’s usually on less “creative” issues (e.g. finance).
Thanks for this. Yes, I’m aware of the distinction and I’ll clarify in a comment
Frankfurt & Kurnitz, DWT, Davis & Gilbert, Loeb, Sloss Eckhouse, there’s a bunch of advertising specialty ones
Thanks!
EDIT TO CLARIFY: Focused more on transactional entertainment law, whether company-side or talent-side.
Would be great if there’s a full-service firm that provides production legal services and IP counsel in addition to the traditional transactional work on the development side (like rights deals and above-the-line talent deals).
And I imagine a full-service entertainment law firm would also have a pretty decent entertainment/IP litigation group.
Looks like there’s a good consensus about the firms: Loeb, DWT and Frankfurt.
Make sure to read all of the Glassdoor reviews on these firms, and run searches in Fishbowl for past comments about what it’s like to actually work there.
Also check Google and Lexis/Westlaw to see which deals and litigations these firms have handled, what kinds of positions they are taking, and for which clients.
Recruiter specializing in this. DM pls.
