What are things that would cause a new associate <1 year to be placed on a pip or just outright fired?

Not meeting the standard or performance deficiency. But you can't fire someone outright just because they have poor performance. When an employee is poor at a certain area, he doesn't need to get fired. He needs to be trained.

Depends on how well staffed your team is

SA 1 - I’ve had this work paper/control under my domain for months. I had sent it off to review for my manager who reviewed it a few weeks ago. There were a bunch of mistakes and it was clear I didn’t have a good understanding of the control. Well we had to redo the whole thing, go back to the client And multiple times now I’ve re reviewed the evidence and found things that were wrong/I didn’t understand. I thought it was done before break but I anxiety reviewing and found more stuff that’s wrong/I don’t understand. Now I have to go back to my manager to tell them that again I found more issues/things that need clarification from the evidence. I feel like the client is already angry with me because of my incompetence. Because of me this control is already late/over due. This plus some other stuff like not doing stuff I was told to do because of disorganization leads me to believe that I’m way more trouble than I’m worth and will be fired because of all of these mistakes/laziness. In general I stress over how difficult I make my teammates lives.

Bad attitude. Doesn’t care about work product despite given repeated feedback. Constantly late. Fail to meet deadlines. No questions asked despite work shows you have no idea what to do. Ghost ticking.

What is ghost ticking?

Falling asleep in the office at 9 in the morning. Not adhering to basic principles of employment (late, unavailable, off camera, not engaging with team or client). Being rude to team or client. Lack of initiative. Inability to complete basic tasks. No matter how short staffed I am, I’d be managing people with these behaviors out of the Firm. They never improve.

like

Inappropriate behavior or poor performance.

Poor performance and gross misconduct. Not only can gross misconduct harm one's relationship with their employer, but it can warrant instant dismissal from their job—even if the behavior is their first offense.

Hi! Underperformance. This is the most common reason I've encountered.

Poor performance could be one of the reasons. another would be inappropriate behavior.

Took my first ever sick day today on account of my very poor and worsening mental health. Just could not bring myself to put in another 14 hour day with back to back meetings and constant activity. Felt very guilty but I honestly wish I could be more honest and actually share with my manager about why I took a day off.

For those also going through this, any tips on how you manage yourself day to day? What self talk tends to help?

I have an offer to start at a new firm 3rd week of January and am trying to figure out timing on when to give a two week notice. For context I’m in consulting and our current projects are wrapping up by year end/we don’t get a busy season surge. I have two weeks of PTO to end the calendar year scheduled, and am afraid if I say anything before the break they’ll cut me off before my time off. Is giving notice first thing next year the best idea given my constraints?
