When we’re all comparing/complaining about hours at the end of the year are we including pro bono hours in that total? I’m nearing 2050 billables for the year but I have another 500 pro bono hours that should be added on. At the same time, I keep hearing about all these people straight billing 2,400+. Random partner asked a litigation-related question to a partner I frequently work with (i’m a transactional associate). My partner cc’d me and said for me to briefly look. Asked the library. They got me a great case. Sent it back. Now the random partner is asking for more cases in another circuit.

I haven’t done caselaw research since 1L and this isn’t even my practice… wtf do I do (I am fully utilized in my normal work and have a few deals closing soon…)

How do you bill your time? The busier I am the harder it is to bill. How do people actually bill contemporaneously in detailed terms when you bill 12 hours but literally did 100 different things in those 12 hours. And it’s never slow enough to go back and do it super detailed.
