I read a quote that comes to mind. “People won’t lose their jobs to AI, they’ll lose their jobs to other people who use AI.”
Technology is just another tool.
Work smart. If the technology is there, use it to your advantage.
Haha very true!
I used Chatgpt to help update my resume and those for some friends. It’s really helpful if you have access to job descriptions from your past roles. Here are the steps I use to have AI help you create the bullet points for your resume. That’s the hardest part for me.
1) Prompt: please create 4-5 resume bullet points based on this job description (copy/paste job description - if you don’t have one, then create your own summary of all the responsibilities you had in the role).
2) In my experience, these are always too formal to fit my writing style/personality. Next prompt: can you please make these less formal?
3) In my experience, Chatgpt will go too casual. Next prompt: this is too casual
At this point, you should have some pretty decent bullet points to work off of. Read them, modify them, and use them as appropriate.
Thank you for sharing your process!!
I run a resume building business, and have absolutely used ChatGPT to help build the resumes I’ve done. I always proofread and edit where necessary after.
I learned to get really specific, specific skills for specific tasks and then if I found I word I would never in a million years use, I went to the thesaurus and found a more appropriate word. It did take a few hours to edit and put together.
You should float that resume externally to see if it’s getting hits from recruiters. A good way to gauge the market’s interest in your skills
I think if you really want a good résumé, you hire someone to do it for you. I have done that before and it is totally worth it.
