Tbh I would give him the $646 if he’d just drop the suit.
Aside from that, couldn’t they just make student loan forgiveness opt-in (or maybe even opt-out) rather than automatic?
Here’s the ATL post: https://abovethelaw.com/2022/09/the-first-student-loan-forgiveness-lawsuit-has-been-filed/
And here’s a link to the complaint: https://www.nationalreview.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Garrison-v.-DoE.pdf
I haven’t read the article because ATL is very hit-or-miss (even ignoring the clickbait), but I’m guessing the $646 thing is just a way to secure Article III standing to sue.

Super weird way too...the harm comes from a third party not the fed govt
Aside from the underlying political issues, $646 is, assuming that he’s forced to accept the forgiveness, a lot for lawyers who are serving in legal aid. I have a lot of respect for them.
@A1, I get that. I shouldn’t have described it as measly. That was insensitive and I appreciate that the dollar amount is a lot of money. Even on big law salary, I’d be ticked to have an additional $646 tax bill. Just probably not mad enough to try to stop forgiveness for everyone else.
