Deloitte experienced hires, who all received written offers and in process of visa/ onboarding, have you heard back anything about hiring freeze? Or recruiter asked you to delay joining date?
My visa got submitted couple of days back and waiting for decision. When I reached out to recruiter to give her an update and mentioned once there’s decision will discuss on the start date before putting my 2 weeks, she mentioned “Yes, we should talk before you put notice” - Am I overthinking? Lateral to a firm with a better PTO policy, permanent hybrid policy and a culture that cares you aren’t taking time off. Any good recruiter if they really know a firm should be able to tell you about their policies or find it out. A mid size or boutique firm should be better for you in that respect.
Apparently the secretary tried to get more pto recently and was told something to the effect of it’s just how small firms are. I myself have dealt with it despite feeling like any increase in pto days or remote options would improve my life drastically. Just needed a job and happy to leave in a year when something is better (although I love other parts of the job so it’s tough!). Anyways looking to see if this is true abojt small firms and/or if I can negotiate more
I’m in a similar boat to you. All in-person no remote and no holidays off. It’s ridiculous. Friends and family not in the law field are generally concerned that I work through holidays. I like other aspects of the job but I’m already of looking to jump ship.
Smallish startup, unlimited PTO, I’ve taken maybe 12 days in 3 years. Last year I worked on New Years Eve, with COVID.
12 days in 3 years is terrible. And working on New Years Eve with COVID, just why?
10 PTO days at small firm, they let me take 11, not counting a bereavement day and a few holidays.
10 PTO first year at a small firm about the size of yours, now I have 15. We’re closed the week from Xmas to New Years unless something major is going on (expedited case, trial prep, etc). We only get the main holidays off.
My firm gives 10 days but it is meaningless because there is no one to cover for you (I’m the only Associate w/ a Managing Partner who is too busy with other engagements to practice) so you have to work.
My first year I only got 4 sick days and no other PTO. My second year I got 5 days PTO plus 4 sick days
I am about to hit year 3 and will have 10 days PTO plus 4 sick days. At 5 years we get 15 days PTO. We get paid federal holidays off and can take as many “unpaid” days as we want. I take a few half days here and there and my pay is not reduced because of salary.
