OP mentioned cars that are in a different class compared to most of the responses. Which I think is interesting.

Makes me wonder if lawyers think they can’t afford “luxury” cars, don’t want them, would rather be incognito with their wealth. Or something else.

My guess is that lawyers like low maintenance and reliable and don’t care about showcasing their $$. Thus Toyota’s and Hundayi topping the responses. Not that they’re trying to hide it, it’s just not important to them.

I personally would love an X3, and will probably get a ~3 year used soon. I’d rather spend my money on trips, but I’m a parent and my kids don’t care about or would appreciate traveling to Europe and SE Asia. And that’s fine, but there are still things in life I’d like to enjoy. If I can’t travel (and I can’t), this is what I’m stuck with.

I imagine a lot of lawyers think they can't afford them--at least responsibly.

Once you set aside $80k in tax-advantaged accounts and however much additional in HYSA for shorter-term purchases, it becomes harder to justify spending $1k+ per month on financing a Cayenne (not including gas, maintenance, insurance, etc.).

100% depends on how many kids. If you have 1-2, you have many choices. If you have 3-5, you basically have three choices: Sienna, Expedition Max, and Suburban. If you have 6+, you have one choice: Ford Transit.

Thinking of switching employers. Do you think bigger retail stores (the ones that have several locations) are easier or harder to work at than little hole-in-the-wall grocery stores (which is all I've ever done)? It seems like the larger chain stores would have more downtime, but I'm wondering if anyone could give some input.

Anyone else finding it very difficult to get any enjoyment out of account management these days? Any coping tips? I feel like being an account person is especially difficult in the COVID era since so much of what we do is manage communications, ensure the team is set up well etc. None of this feels particularly fun alone staring into the void of Zoom all day ... but the same pressure is still there. I feel like I spend every week counting down to the weekend which kinda sucks.

I just finished a big jury trial with a senior partner (SP). There were co-parties w/separate counsel. SP mentally checked out, to the point that co-counsel was asking what SP was doing/if SP was okay. I ended up handling most everything. SP did a few parts but went rogue and did things that were offensive/risky/bad for client. It became clear that SP is not performing like SP used to and may be a liability. Do I tell someone at my firm? Don’t want to offend SP or cause drama, but I’m concerned.

Can you name a firm (preferably NY office) that lets its associates work from a different country with no issues? The mid-size firm I’m currently at has been very flexible during covid but I’m looking to change firm (biglaw). Since my family is abroad I find it extremely valuable to be able to do this (I did this even before covid for a couple of weeks, twice a year). I’ve heard firms like Latham and Paul Weiss don’t allow it for tax reasons.
