Tbh I had no motivation to stay an engineer at first. I wanted to start a side hustle and get out of corporate. Recent events have helped me to understand that I’m staying because I want to change something. I want to help POC and women learn how to properly negotiate and stay firm when they want to see change. I also met a manager who changed my life. He was amazing and was also under appreciated. He set the bar HIGH. Since then, I made it my mission to do what I can to help and educate.
Love this, keep doing your thing girl!
I think to have the unique opportunity to create and innovate. To fulfil a unique use cases of requirements and make systems that make such a difference to peoples lives. Maybe not saving lives always but making them so much easier for others. Feels incredibly rewarding to me. Job security and salary up there too. But technology I was always passionate about from a young age. I grew up with it and want to grow old with it.

totally agree! i love creating… computer science allows so much potential. the way to decompose super complex problems and solve them with software is pretty cool. if i ever changed careers i imagine i would want to do something else where i’m making something… tho most jobs like that don’t pay as well.
The truth? I just wanted to prove that I can. So you could say it was by the power of sheer will and feminism LOL. I stayed because I grew to like it over time. Can't see myself doing anything else anymore to be honest.
Honestly? I just sort of fell into this role. I don't mind the work, and the money is good, so why not? But I wouldn't say any part of it was inspiring.
True!
To be completely honest, I can't think of anything deep. I guess I am just here because the pay is good. I got bills to pay so that's it.
I like what I do, but there's not a very deep reason for it either. I pay my bills at the end of the month, I can treat myself constantly, and I work from home. For me, that's already perfect
I wanted a good enough salary to support my family. I had to go back to school as a single mom. My salary is not what I thought it would be. Especially since I know have student loan debt to pay off.
I work at a nonprofit in order to get student loan forgiveness, but then again I’m not making the money I could at a nonprofit. I live in a small city, but now there is more more remote work out there
