location (HCOL, MCOL, LCOL)
dual income or single income household
kids?
major components (debt from mortgage, student loans, car)
Family assistance is another big one
$1M. Reality is that real wealth includes trust fund or generational / inheritance. It’s not what you make, it’s what you control.
If you invest half your gross pay from age 23 to 32 into the market each year, you’d have about $850k by the time you turn 32. Assuming normal big 4 salary progression. I’d say $850k is about where most financially motivated people would end up. To be truly impressive in my opinion, you’d have to find a way to get ahead of those that are just steadily dumping cash into index funds each year… I’d say $1.2m to $1.5m would be impressive.
If you’re speaking to other finance professionals or people with advanced degrees probably $200-500k+ excluding home value. This just depends on how out of touch they are lol. If you’re speaking to just about anyone else they’d probably be impressed by $100K+. Most people don’t have much saved.
