What's your experience working with United Way?
I’m about to start an internship at IBM for UX Research. I’m super excited about it, and was wondering if anyone could tell me about the design culture there or how the company is for designers? So far online I’ve only heard about the company from consultants or software engineers. For more reference I’ll be working in Austin.

McKinsey & Company McKinsey & Company I have my first rounds (2 cases) for a position at the risk practice. Will I be interviewed by consultants in the risk practice? I wonder if I can ask some risk practice specific questions at the end of the interviews. (Didn’t get the names of the interviewers yet so I cannot google)

Avoiding the saliva dripping from our recruiters' mouths
That people don’t think you were counseled out
I’m serious
Solid answer! Well played!
1. perception risk - you couldn’t hack it at your old firm, you are disloyal
2. advancement risk - you need to re-establish yourself at your new firm. Other ‘home growns’ at your tenure have much deeper relationships than you. You will have a tougher time finding sponsors and mentors
3. network risk - your old colleagues are likely to excommunicate you. Your professional network takes a massive hit
Do a lot of people actually get counseled out? I haven’t met a single person or know of anyone who has been.
Quite rare in my experience, I think folks know that they aren’t cut out for it (not necessarily due to lack of ability, but the costs on your life are insanely high) and jump ship before then.
FWIW, I’ve been here a few years and have not met a single person who was counseled to leave, I’ve worked with probably ~100 people and maybe a good quarter of them have left.
Counseled out
I wasn’t, just saying that’s a stigma / assumption you may face. I never worked at MBB
My 2c from friends who have worked at both and that I used to be at BCG, I think culturally you’ll find that BCG is a more accepting and collaborative place, much less cutthroat to McKinsey, I might heavily weigh cultural fit as something to consider
I’m very glad it doesn’t! I don’t mean to prejudge, should preface my comment with the fact that my experience is exclusively anecdotal.
