Hi everyone, I have 2 years of experience in a service based industry as a Java developer, and I am eager to work hard and switch to a reputed product based organisation, but I am not getting proper time to study and practice data structures and algorithms, as I have so much to learn and understand things which are related to my project. Any suggestions would be appreciated and I'll try to inculcate it. Thanks in advance! Amazon Oracle Samsung Microsoft Cisco Salesforce Arcesium Uber

I agree with KPMG 1. I’ve never personally, or seen any immigrants, got pressured into abysmal situation. Immigrants work really hard because we know the consequences, and we are just here to earn our place and prove that we belong to stay.
People I work with had never used my status against me, and from what I see, I am treated equally, I climb up the food chain based on merit, and so are other immigrants I’ve worked with.
I feel overworked and burnt out from time to time, but I knew about this before I signed up for this gig. We work a lot of hours, but I don’t think we are that underpaid, most college grads don’t get paid as much as us unless they are in other STEM fields.
I’ve been here for 5 years and I am making a comfortable salary that a lot of my friends can’t match. I am also hit up by recruiters almost everyday, and so are my coworkers, so from my perspective, we can go anywhere anytime.
It’s not predatory. You are not “underpaid”. If you are, then you should go find a job that will pay you more. Kids line up 20 deep for this opportunity. If you wanted to make more money earlier in your career, then bartend or go into sales. Those immigrants are paid both in salary and with their expensive Visas. This is a choice, and you can choose not to do it.
Accounting is a long game when it comes to $, but it will NEVER make you “rich”. The best of the best may make $20M after tax in their LIFETIME. If you want to get “rich", you gotta build something yourself, not join what others already built.
PWC1 - thank you for your comment. I agree with you that the issue is very complex. 30k figure is not a misstated, unfortunately I cannot elaborate regarding the number further on this FB platform. 🙋♀️ thank you for voicing your opinion so eloquently and professionally without dismissing anyone else’s opinion. Have a nice Friday!
And to trap skilled immigrants by holding their work visa hostage, demanding outrageous hours, paying little in return.
Have seen numerous colleagues here on work visa pressured into abysmal situations due to fear of retaliation and being sent home.
Dude that is the MO... it is a business they are running
Yes because you have no choice but to go big 4 after college... Tell that to the thousands of applicants that get turned down every year. Give me a break.
You get a lot in return though if you get out at senior. You can cut 5-8 years of your career compared to if you started in private
We all have choices. No one is forcing anyone to stay in PA. You can come and go as you please. As CPAs we are in high demand and can pretty much land another gig very quickly
OP that’s a very specific way of viewing the industry. The assumption that the college grads “can’t go elsewhere” is so clearly flawed since every Big 4 firm has high turnover. Clearly people can go elsewhere whenever they want. People aren’t trapped
OP that’s false. I have seen plenty of staff and seniors leave over the years and go to regional firms or industry
I’m gonna disagree with the immigrant point of view. If you’re an immigrant, you need to understand that you have to work harder (like a lot harder) to earn that American privilege. I work hard and I’ve made manager, but I’ve never had a day when I had a thought of being pressured into abysmal situations due to my status.
KPMG 2 I did not call SM1 privileged and entitled. I said their comments send that vibe - meaning they can come across as such, I was expressing my own opinion and not relying on some popular sentiment or to be funny. 🤦♀️ Please read again.
I don’t think it’s necessarily predatory. Yeah sometimes the work and the hours really suck, but I guarantee there are college grads that would do anything for a spot at B4. Starting salaries are in range, if not, higher than entry level jobs elsewhere. Pretty sure people stick to the grind because they like the challenge or want the exit opportunities. 🤷🏼♀️
You can expand that logic beyond this industry...
Have to agree with OP here. I tend to give more work to the immigrants because they work harder and don't push back as much.
Do you do that only to immigrants or anyone who is will to work hard and doesn’t push back? If it is the former, it is borderline discrimination; if it is the latter, most people does that.
The pay is fine for what it is. A non-designated staff accountant doesn’t really demand a high salary imo
Doesn’t it take 10,000 hours to master a skill? You’re killing it! 👍
You barely figured that out? I thought everybody knew that’s how this worked going in..?
