With all this future workplace talk, what are the thoughts on salary adjustments based on home location? Obviously if you have an in-demand skill, then you’d get paid more regardless of where you are. But outside of those jobs, wouldn’t it make sense that someone in a metropolitan city gets paid more since cost of living is higher? What incentive does an employer have to keep paying you at the big city rate after you choose to move to somewhere rural (unless you have a rare skill)?

I am a 33 y/o single female that works in Louisiana for the state health dept. I really enjoy my job and the autonomy I have but am only making $55K/yr—however, I do not want to leave this job anytime soon due to being in the PSLF program. A company didn’t follow through with a scheduled intro phone call. I emailed during the time scheduled to see if something had come up & after as well to reschedule.
