I think there's a place for them in service where they can do a lot of good and many times it gives people another job path that's not law enforcement or subject to the rigidity of traditional military service.
They usually know more then the military personnel working the same job. As well as their pay being better then the military personnel.
PMCs, just like mercenaries, serve a purpose for governments that do not want or need to deploy their regular armed forces. Personally, I have not ever worked with them, but they are usually well-equipped to handle the situations they are hired for. Despite my years of service in the army, I prefer not to be sent to combat zones. So anytime a PMC is hired and sent somewhere instead of us army folks, I'm totally fine with it.
In the short spurts of time I’ve worked with them they operate substantially more efficiently and their decision making process and process to move personnel, equipment, etc is about 1/3 of what your typical conventional force can manage. They’re also a lot cheaper in the long run. Definitely an option for me when I finish my second contract.
