What jobs are currently paying 85k?
How early is too early to ask for a raise?
Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

The only thing that works, in my view, is to make the case that you've gotten more adept in the job and you're a higher quality employee than you were when your pay was last set. What matters to a company is your value to the team. No one cares about the cost of living, or what people are paid across town. Make it about yourself and how you've accomplished a lot and intend to accomplish a lot more.
I feel like this doesnt even work half the time either! The company will always try to make you do more work for less pay but having value is the only true leverage.
None right now because I'm unemployed. The only time you really have leverage over an employer is when you don't NEED the job. If you do need the job, they have all the power and are well aware of it.
Yeah a need for a job really takes away any leverage when you’re willing to take anything!
Willingness to walk away is always the trump card
I want to try this more! Seems like a good idea.
Multiple offers and the market
