What makes for the successful transition from a Tier 2 to a Tier 1 firm at partner level?

I would suggest it’s almost impossible. By the time you get to partner your network is going to be pretty well developed and if you’re doing that in Tier2 the likelihood it will be centred around a different class of client. Moving to a Tier 1 would mean trying to operate in a much higher pressure environment without a bunch of clients you can reach out to and rely on to ask you to work for them, especially since your price point has just gone up but you haven’t changed much.

Depends. Are you in a niche area?

like

Why would you want to make that move though? Especially if you’re already well established at your current firm and have built a network of clients.

Don’t do it. I did it and it wasn’t worth destroying my client base, non compete will prevent you from porting clients. The pay is not that much better at the P level. Big4s are a lot more stable than tier 1 firms.

Recently accepted a temp role as an HR admin for a former employer. Previously interned there & left because my supervisor did not have any growth opportunities planned out for me; this was in spite of my stellar performance, as reflected in my 90 day review. She has since left the company, but there’s crazy turnover in the company & in the HR department in particular. Just that an HR coordinator resigned. Is it worth going back into a dumpster fire w/ no leadership to gain experience?
