I would say it depends on what role you envision out of public; if you want to get into FP&A/other non-financial reporting areas, then leave now. If you want to advance higher in the financial reporting role, it's definitely more beneficial to stay until at least manager. If you leave now for a senior accountant financial reporting role, yes, you will be behind in your career for the most part versus people leaving at manager. Obviously there are outliers and not saying that you're 100% guaranteed to be behind; but overall, it depends on what you want to do for the rest of your career.
Appreciate the response! I do want to leave as I don’t envision myself in a financial reporting role but I don’t hear any success stories within the firm.
