After a decade of working at low-paying jobs to earn enough money so we could pay the essential costs of life, I was able to return to college to finish my degree. My husband got a new job that paid enough to more than cover what I had been earning. He said that instead of me continuing to work at those jobs, he would rather I get my degree so that if something were to happen to him I wouldn't be in a position where I would have to work 60 hours a week just to pay the bills. I got my degree, obtained a meaningful and rewarding position, and we are now financially secure. I wouldn't call it "financial freedom," but at least we can live life instead of just exist and subsist.

Proud of you!

I personally don't want to ever be in a position where I have to depend on anyone ever again. I've dealt with relationships in the past where I ended up having to stay in situations that weren't healthy just because I couldn't financially afford to leave. I vowed that I would never let that happen again. It's a big motivator for me.

Good for you 🫶🏼

What motivates me the most is the sense of freedom. Not having to owe anything to anyone is such a dream. What about you?

Can someone help me understand how backdoor Roth works in my situation?

I contribute the $19.5K max to a 401K each year. Would backdoor Roth be (A) the ability to roll $6K of that $19.5K into a Roth? or (B) an incremental $6K that I could contribute to a separate IRA then backdoor into a Roth?

Asked another way, does backdoor Roth allow me to actually contribute $25.5K each year, or does it just allow $6K of my $19.5K contribution to build in a Roth?

Thanks!

Is there an easy/efficient way to figure out how much you've contributed to vs earned in your Roth accounts? I started contributing >20 years ago to my employer's Roth 401k and have rolled it over to a Roth IRA and moved it between multiple custodians, e.g. Fidelity, Vanguard, UBS, Personal Capital, etc. It is unclear to me how much I contributed vs how much I earned by investing it.

The purpose of doing this is I want to use $10K of it, but want to prove that the $10K is from my contribution.

I had walked into a best collateral store and sold a few unused electronic items. I had to give my drivers license and finger prints. Now, I feel very vulnerable that I had to share a lot of personal information. Does anyone see any risks disposing old items in this manner and sharing their personal info? It would be good if anyone can share their own experience. It would help alleviate my anxiety.

Are there recruiters who specialize in or have opportunities in non practicing attorney or jd preferred roles? I don’t want to litigate anymore but I really need help finding a non practicing role. I wonder if there are recruiters who do this.
