For me it was having my leave postponed between April and November due to an urgent project live date. The minute I got it over the line I was given the next deadline. That involved my Christmas leave being canceled along with the office closure between Christmas and New Year not being applicable to my team. That’s 8 months without a break, with a lot of 7 day weeks, and no reimbursement for the lost weekends and canceled leave. My projects used to follow pattern, 6 months long within which 2 months were steady work, then the 3rd month would be high pressure and repeat again. Leave could be fitted in as long is it didn’t impact the high pressure months. This last year has told me they expect us to work to burnout then leave. It all led up to an acquisition in November. The ‘acquired personnel’ are being treated as an overhead cost to be squeezed till they quit.

This sounds so toxic. Sorry you experienced this.

The constant “Friday drinks” but not giving anyone pay rises or promotions - one day we even got paid a day later!

This is the one!
When I worked EMS, there were cliques believe it or not. The mentality of lets work extreme hours such as picking up 14 hour straight shifts to try and make ends meet despite destroying ypur health and not eat during that time or just slam down energy drinks to keep you awake. I wish more station chiefs would be more aware of these crazy hours that people pick up and remind them to rest. Or heck increase the wages so people wouldn't have to do these hours just to make ends meet. I would want an awake and focused crew to pick me up and transport me, wouldn't you?
Thank you for the reply! That's the reality
