What signals actually matter most to hiring committees beyond publication count? CV looks solid numerically, yet interviews have been sparse. Institutional pedigree and network seem to carry weight. How did others increase academic job traction without changing output?

Figure out what your research and future agenda are at the core and highlight that. A large list of projects might seem impressive, but harder to pin down what you are doing. Making sure you have good and respectable references goes a long way, too.

I am currently a gov attorney at a major metro area in the northeast. I recently received an offer from a ID private firm (1900 billable hours) in the area for about 40k more than my currently salary. I was going to accept, but now I’m having second thoughts about leaving a secure gov job with good benefits. Really not sure what to do.
