I’m sure the expert networks do the Linkedin route as well. And they do that research for free (you only pay the interviews you actually use). Why do it yourself?

Confirmed that LEK does this, and it’s one of the dumbest policies we have for too many reasons to count. We often dedicate a team member to doing this all day as their only job. Mind numbing and horribly inefficient.
This issue is brought up to leadership repeatedly at nearly every round table, but they are too stubborn to change historical practice.. but leadership at LEK is generally among the worst I’ve seen so no surprise there
Agree with the 10% - for niche cases. Typically expert networks suffice.
Of course we conduct the interviews ourselves... Not sure where the confusion arose here.
If by expert networks you mean's GLG and the likes, we do the same.
I don't think looking for such people on LinkedIn is cost efficient considering how much time you spend to find interviewees, cold reach out to them and what % actually even replies - in the meantime you spent X number of hours of an analyst that is probably equivalent to the cost of x3-4 GLG interviews.
Would be interesting to hear from people who have used this method though.

Can confirm LEK will self-source (internal database, Linked-In, cold calling, etc.)...I have also found this website to be particularly helpful https://findexpertmd.com
This website is helpful, thanks! How much outreach do you typically have to do to secure 1 interview?
There’s loads of compliance issues with the LinkedIn approach. I don’t understand why a firm like LEK would do that. Unless this is not in LS and it’s easier and less compliance heavy in other industries.
I used LinkedIn only when the expert networks can’t find the people we need to speak to. Very rarely works out though
