I learned mostly through randomly googling my questions on what I want to achieve in pivot and going through whatever it spills out. Right now you can even use chat gpt
The school of Google has provided many a lesson for myself, as well. Lol
They are relatively simple. The way to learn are to run through use cases or actual work tasks. YouTube’s a great spot for very specific functions. But i only find myself using pivots for singular tasks or reports. All others, I build / leverage PowerBI, or Tableau.
Following. I’m a formula queen but haven’t learned functional pivot tables and would like to!
I learned by practicing. Start with one in a new sheet and play around with it.
Also - as you look into the actual process of creating a pivot table (which is quite literally selecting your data; and push the button to create the table): you’ll find that you’ll want the data to calculate a certain way; de-duplicate a certain way; graph a certain way, etc. those are the right questions to be asking … but the broad question of how to learn pivots is too broad to give a good answer.
You’ll need to determine its usage - and run into a problem you can’t solve to learn how to effectively use them.
It’s like reading a book on how to operate a car … but there are different needs … are you operating a rental car company, a trucking company, a door dash service, or just need to go from point A to point B. All take a car … but usage is just as important.
Just a thought…I’ve always found it easier and faster to make my own “pivot tables” with various formulas. This tends to be more versatile both in calculations and formatting. It also doesn’t require any specialized knowledge to use or maintain.
