What would you wear to visit the Supreme Court as a tourist (no court business)? I’m going to DC for vacation and I’m trying to decide if I need to pack a suit.

This is silly. No one is looking at you on a tour. No one on the tour will know you're a lawyer unless you tell them, and hopefully you're not one of those obnoxious lawyers who has to go around telling everyone.
DC is a disgusting humid swamp right now. Wear something flowy and chic and breathable and cool. You are not interviewing for a job in the USSC.

like

I was taught that lawyers should always wear a suit in a courtroom whether or not they're part of a case.

Wow! For July in D.C., I would wear a skirt and short sleeve top and look nice but just smart-casual. And I wouldn’t go around telling people I’m a lawyer, so I don’t think it would matter

like

When are you going? DC is a swamp in the summer. Think humidity that makes you feel like you’re an actual cooked dumpling. Suits are heinously uncomfortable if you’re doing any walking at all. I think a linen sheath sundress with a lightweight wrap or cardigan is plenty.

like

You don’t need to wear a suit on a tour.

like

Im surprised about the suit recommendations, because I would’ve just showed up in regular tourist clothes that are weather appropriate!

like

So, the folks saying suits aren’t appropriate are wrong.

People who go to observe the Supreme Court do usually wear suits. I’ve been a few times and everyone is in business attire. That said, in the heat I think the professional sundress with a wrap or cardigan is appropriate.

Your judgment is correct though that professional attire is the norm.

like

Unless the OP is deciding now whether to pack a suit for an October (or later) vacation, how could she possibly plan to observe? It’s the summer recess.

I’ve been a lawyer for over 20 years, but not a litigator, and don’t own a suit, so I definitely would buy one just to visit SCOTUS as a tourist!

I owned a couple when I was more junior but the running joke was that anyone wearing a full suit either had a client meeting or was interviewing.

For more formal things like client pitches etc I typically wear a dress with a jacket, but post pandemic, the jacket hasn’t even been necessary in my NYC transactional world.

I went on a tour and wore a nice shirt, lulu yoga pants, and sneakers… it’s a tour, so I just wanted to be comfy.

I recently had an initial interview for a technical recruiter position. The guy on the phone stated that this is not a 9-5 job and long hours are expected. I proceed to ask how much PTO is offered and he said that is not recommend within the first 6 months of working and the harder you work the more PTO you receive. From that conversation, I saw instant red flags. Any thoughts?

How does one tell their boss (owner of the company) that you are burnt out? The sheer volume of work is exhausting and I haven’t taken a true vacation as we are a small company so if something urgent comes to my email I feel like I must respond. I was given an additional title and more responsibilities last year as well but only a 3% raise for it.

I recently had a blood test and found this out myself, from looking online it appears that this is pretty common in a lot of vets and men in general. Hello all! So I’m currently a Realtor in LA. Prior to being a Realtor, I was a store manager for a luxury store in Beverly Hills. I was kind of forced to get out of retail when the pandemic hit so my only option at the time was to jump in to real estate as I already had my license. I’ve been feeling unfulfilled with real estate and truly miss luxury retail. Does anyone have any referrals for luxury retail jobs in Los Angeles? I would love to hear from you!
