PwC is a professional accounting firm and KPMG makes golf hats.
More Oscar jokes, fewer regional firm jokes. Otherwise it’s all the same
I’m always seeing “big 4 experience required” in job postings. Have yet to see “pwc, EY, or Deloitte experience required"
Blue kool-aid vs green kool-aid. Meanwhile I’m content with my purple kool-aid.
Ya, we basically get paid to play golf. Why wouldn’t you want to join us?
Also we have a higher revenue per employee ratio which translates into higher bonuses
PwC 6, enjoy laughing with your coworkers at midnight. KPMG employees left hours ago.
That’s the difference
Worked at both (just switched over to KPMG a few months ago) both are solid firms. At least in tax KPMG has smaller to mid market clients who will be more fee conscious and that’s been a bit of a change from PwC where clients generally would pay. From what I’be seen KPMG’s work life balance is better, PwC folks proud themselves in working too many hours and management/partners are more reasonable and family conscious at KPMG. PwC’s leadership is more technology focused while KPMG is more budget/hours focused. All in all don’t let the golf jokes fool you KPMG is a solid firm and so is PwC.
As long as it says Big 4 experience on job requirement you’ll be fine. What matters when u interview at ANY public accounting firm is one thing only. Look at the people there and ask urself one question. “Can I spend 80 hrs a week in a meeting room with these folks?”
PwC is, in my experience, more intense and “performance” obsessed, but also way more up its own ass. The biggest factor in choosing one should be the local team you would be working with. I worked in one market where I was glad to get out of KPMG and PwC was clearly the best firm. In my current market, PwC is not managed well, not as successful and has a very negative culture so I’m leaving. In this market, KPMG has a much better culture and would be a better choice
KPMG is supposedly the fastest growing. Also, we tend to score higher in "best places to work lists/etc." than other Big 4. To be honest, a more important question is what office are you being offered and who will you work with? The culture of the Big 4s nationally is not as relevant as the culture of the individual office. I would probably go with whoever is paying more though if I liked both offices.
But in actuality - I interviewed at both and liked both. But when I said I wanted to work out of a different city, KPMG said good luck and PwC hooked me up with multiple senior managers and partners in my desired city. Meant the world to me and that’s the firm I chose
I worked at PwC and now I’m at KPMG. I got a $40k raise to join KPMG. I don’t work as much at KPMG. KPMG doesn’t try to impress its employees on the prestige of the firm. They just pay more. You decide what is important I suppose, the so called prestige of PwC, or money.
Actually differences who knows as there are so many factors. But do you really want to be the lowest on the Totem pole? Literally had a firm meeting where the partner didn’t even mention KPMG as a competitor. I was like damnn
And lastly PwC group politics, at least in my group, were way more prevalent at PwC. In terms of staffing, promotions etc. you had to keep your head on a swivel and play more of a game of thrones type of game to navigate upward movement. KPMG’s review meetings and promotion criteria are much easier than the snapshot system and tiers at pwc.
It really depends on the City and the culture in each office? Not all PwC and KPMG office are created equal
GT 1 is the realest dude
Really depends on local office and leadership
Lol at this thread...
Had offers to both but KPMGs was for global mobility which is basically a dead end career and PwC was for general tax so I can specialize as a manager. There were people laughing and joking while I toured the office, KPMGs office was super quiet and everyone worked in little cubes where all you could see was the beige walls and carpet (they didn’t even have a cafe to eat lunch together). I preferred the vibe at PwC and I’m very glad I went here as I can laugh with coworkers at midnight during audits vs staring at my computer in frustrated silence.
