What's something you didn't know you were signing up for as you entered this field? I had no idea just how thick-skinned and resilient you needed to be just to get by in your job. I almost feel like I need to invest in personality development coaching to stay in or be good at my job. How about the rest of you?

Something that often surprises me is how much patience is required to do the job. Lately it seems like so many organizations are concerned about cutting costs, and they're wary of committing to anything. So the amount of patience required to keep trying to move things along keeps growing. If there was a way to measure units of patience I'm sure I've gone completely off the scale.

Totally agree, resilience is the real hidden job requirement in sales. It’s not taught, but it’s everything. Coaching helped me build thicker skin over time.

Do you mind sharing the name of your coach?

I had no idea how many no's it takes to get to a yes. I used to get so discouraged when I heard the word no. Now I recognize that I am that much closer to a yes, but it does sting sometimes.

I think you’re right!

Hey, OP, how’s it going?

I was a Manager at a Big4 doing PM fed work earlier this year. I decided to join a small firm to pursue cloud sales. However, the position is extremely technical in nature and I'm required to speak tech ( kubernetes, openshift, CICD) to potential clients.
While I have learned from the exposure, I dont intend to continue in a tech role & looking to exit. I'm thinking of Customer/ Partner Success Manager roles with one of the CSPs. Are there other non tech cloud exit opps in industry to consider?

Senior engineer making 135k and I was offered a promotion to engineering manager after completing a development plan. Near the end of the plan and I expect compensation talks to start soon. Based on some research around Boston and my role in the company, I feel 165k plus 10-15% bonus is fair. Nonetheless, first time going through something like this and asking for thoughts and comments. Thanks!

So i have been fortunate that i have managed to go through my career without the need for a degree. I was lucky enough to have been hired by one of the worlds top consulting firms, worked with a whole lot of big clients and travelled a lot. It's gotten to the point where I am not even asked about the lack of a degree on my resume. Personally though, it bothers me. I have a whole bunch of certifications in my industry…but just no formal degree. (cont'd)

After 45 minutes she said they will let me know...

“Job hopper” and “quiet quitting” are all schemes made up by boomers to make you think everything is the employees fault. When in reality people are just getting out of bad situations. Older companies do whatever they can to pay you the least amount and get the max work out of you. Except our generation will just leave amid we’re being mistreated, not complain for 35 years making 50k and 0 advancement.

I left my job about a year ago to relocate, make sure it was the right decision and start a side business in the mean time. Now I’m actively looking for a new sales position, have tons of experience, but am struggling to even get a response from job apps. I am wondering if this is because of my employment gap? I don’t have my side business listed on my resume because I don’t feel like I have enough positive “stats” to report yet given it’s new. Any advice or recommendations?
