Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations
Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?
Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

That's an interesting question. I don't recall ever seeing any reliable reporting about that. I suspect you may be right that tech seems to have the most latitude, though I'd read that the Mag 7 companies can have pretty rigid salary bands. I suspect negotiations in finance might get pretty interesting, I've heard stories of people getting really elaborate comp packages.
I would think being a top performer in your field would matter more. Sure some fields have higher pay but I’d your a crappy programmer and compare that to a top performer HR rep I wouldn’t expect the tech worker to be able to negotiate better just because he’s in tech.

I would guess tech and maybe biotech or finance but I haven’t seen anything reported officially
