How I’m feeling today..

Hi fishes! I volunteer with The Art of Good, a creative collective helping small businesses affected by the pandemic. They are seeking a little help from a media professional. Need an SEM POV for a small business looking to change their name and relaunch their brand. This is non-paid. More about giving back while in-between gigs. :) If you can help out or want to learn more, please reach out to me via LinkedIN. Thank you!! www.linkedin.com/in/karenkohn/

Is anybody going to tell OP to use that money for additional schooling that will provide them with a career that actually has future?
Or am I the one who will get shouted down?
Publicis 1: Advertising didn’t even occur to me a career until I had been out of undergrad for 3 years. Not to mention that most undergrad marketing and advertising programs do not prep you for the kind of work most people dream of doing.
Not trying to cape for portfolio school because it’s not a smart investment for everyone, and depends on the program. But it was absolutely worth it for me.
VCU owns it now, so you should be good. It's intentionally more affordable so you can take individual classes instead of the whole lot
Who are the teachers?
I'm a circus alum, and I have some pretty serious doubts about the new program.
The original program was a two-year-long, in-person course. It wasn't a golden ticket either. You had to really bust your ass to make a solid book.
Now it's an eight-month-long online program? I seriously doubt you're going to get much of a portfolio out of that.
If you're going to spend the kind of money they're asking for, you should apply to VCU Brandcenter.
Curriculum-wise, I don't think it needed to be 2 years.
Much of the first year felt mostly like hazing for the sake of trauma bonding. It did a decent job weeding out or shaping folks coming straight from HS, college, or new to constant sink-or-swim situations.
Two of the best party years of my life 💃🏼
Didn’t they go out of business years ago? Might be a reboot in name only.
Yep. Sadly alums found out about its original closing a couple years ago via a random LinkedIn post
Same goes for the reboot
Buncha clowns.
Portfolio schools are great if a) the work they help you produce is good b) the lecturers are able to give you a decent network. B is almost more important tbh so really investigate the student work that people leave with and the kind of network people teaching you will open up for you.
The new creative circus? I think it’s too early to tell with the staff being overhauled and it no longer in person. I was there when COVID hit and kinda transformed to being mostly virtual. Being there actually made a difference for my learning & portfolio at the time but shouldn’t thought of as the end-all be-all
I graduated from the Circus over 20 years ago. But in 2025, you shouldn’t get into debt so you can break into advertising. There’s an increased demand for entry level creatives who will work long hours for very little money.
