What’s the hardest level/role within the corporate ladder in consulting? From analyst to MD, what are your thoughts?

Senior manager/director, depending on the firm. The position where you are responsible for selling, responsible for delivery, responsible for client relationships, and basically have to give up your first born child to get promoted.

Sr manager and sr consultant, this is the answer I've heard the most on this question

like

SM. Very high expectations. Leadership judging you at every turn and making you jump through hoops to reach next level.

like

SM at Accenture. You catch sh*t from your team, client, and MSs.. you have delivery AND sales responsibilities.. out-or-up pressure is much greater at this level.

like

SM

I think this really depends on your service line.

There is nothing harder than selling into a commoditized space when you have a non-differentiated offering. Think - EY Technology Consulting - where you have to compete against all the B4, Accenture, IBM, Protiviti, Sapient, Cognizant, WIPRO, TCS, etc - and depending on the proposed solution - usually their professional services. And if the client's not buying either because your offering blows or the market sucks - too bad, you're fired. So in those cases, MD/PP is the hardest.

If you're in Tax and Audit where clients mostly renew and switch firms when they're told by their Board - then SM is harder because of all the reasons you've listed.

Hi There, I’m a Senior freelance Digital PM/Producer based out of Toronto, Canada. I figure with remote work being the norm now, there would be more opportunity to collaborate with US agencies. Has anyone had the experience of doing this? I know some agencies have strict hiring protocol but I am incorporated. Any advice would help! Thank you

Okay so I’m a newly licensed attorney in a very conservative part of TX. I just got my first job offer and I was worried at first thinking that I was in “Trump” territory, but I tested the waters in my interview and spoke about police injustices and how prosecutor’s job is not only to protect victims, but also defendants from police injustices. I have to let them know by tomorrow, but thoughts on if this is a good career move for someone who wants to work in transactional work-RE or Bankruptcy?

How can I sell my 2 years of clerkship as valuable experience for corporate work? I would like to get credit for at least one year (at least in salary, if I can’t in seniority). I know for litigation they are more clearly valued and linked to that type of work, but I have reconsidered my interests and now am thinking of going into corp. However, I don’t want to feel like I wasted 2 years clerking (which I don’t feel like that, but I have to convince an employer of that too). Any help or insight?

I'm working at a startup where I feel like I've spent as much time trying to deal with product issues vs working on roadmap items. I get this is bound to happen in a start up but is this common?
