You dodged a bullet
Bad employers are trying to take advantage of candidates in this job market, so their offers are not going to match what’s normal for the industry or your experience, it will just match the desperation people have to land a job in a scarcity environment. They expected you to find a second job or at least a side gig for that additional $15k, not ask them for it.
You're right, that was a lowball offer. But coming back with a 33% counteroffer probably made you look unserious, to be honest. Perhaps you could have landed it by countering a smaller number, five grand tops, probably. If they're lowballing you they're not going to go too high. And in this market there was probably someone else right behind you who accepted the low offer.
Did they have any kind of salary range posted on the job listing? Or were you just basing numbers off of your expectations and the market? Either way, I think 45k is ridiculous for your level of experience, so it sounds like you didn't want to work there for a salary as low as they would pay anyway.
Negotiations require leverage and you need to know exactly what leverage you have, and don’t have. That leverage can be a variety of things.
My wife recently asked for a raise. Had all the data she needed behind it. They turned her down so she resigned. They panicked. They couldn’t pay the higher amount so instead they offered her a 32 hour work week for the same TC. Her leverage was two-fold. One, they needed her. Top producer and it wasn’t even close. Two, I make a very good salary and she could just walk away. Not everyone can walk away from $250k. 15 years ago I was the one who was able to walk.
To actually answer your question. Given what you’ve said, there was no way to land where you needed to be. I imagine there was maybe $3-$5k in wiggle room, max, and even at the top of that it’s an insulting offer given your experience.

If you are a social media manager, (where grammar and proper choice and use of words is very important) at least know the correct word to use and how to spell it. 😉
