Depends how they're done but if they're quick and well run they're a great way to keep the team connected and focused.
@Ketchum1, yeah, you guys are not doing that correctly.
Scrum is a methodology for executing a project, like waterfall is. It’s not a type of meeting.
Scrum is pretty much mostly applicable to software development projects because the backend or certain pieces can be developed (in full or to a certain extent) without having completed frontend designs.
Stand-ups are quick 15-minute meetings (usually first thing in the morning) used in scrum projects where each person on the team says what they completed the prior day, what they’re working on today, and anything that’s blocking them from moving forward, so that work can be properly prioritized and blockers removed.
Pretty much all advertising projects are waterfall (you wouldn’t start printing a billboard before you had final designs, for example) and stand-ups would serve them no purpose. If you’re needing to meet daily on a waterfall project, there is a major breakdown somewhere in your team (most likely in the team’s communication).
I think they can be informative. They provide key company updates, office updates and statuses on all of our BD pitches.
I think they’re more useful daily on a scrum like project if people are using the meeting to share what it is they did that day - vs talking about what they WILL do.
A lot of these morning stand ups just talk about what will happen and things don’t happen. Go for end of day as a method of checking in your work
^ That's not a "stand-up"/"hot sheet" meeting.
What R/GA said.
Makes for shorter meetings 😃 because standing too long hurts your feet ☹️
Stand ups for us are more about major news. Scrums are daily status meetings
I have a team stand up first thing every morning. 15 minutes that saves me from an endless stream of meetings.
