What’s your rule of thumb for deciding when to challenge the business vs. when to support a direction you don’t fully agree with? That judgment seems core to senior finance roles.

If you have the trust of peers and leaders around you, and you have a valid basis for your concern/disagreement, you should voice it. Substantiate your concerns with the risk you see that direction posing toward the firm's objective/reputation/profitability/etc.

Love this. Trust and reputation matter so much.

I agree with the comment above. It also depends on your company’s culture and how truly collaborative it is. But if you have the trust of the people around you to speak up, you learn when something is worth raising and when it isn’t.

Yep. People welcome it when they trust you.

I'm in finance/tech FPA, looking to go back to the defense industry for a 25% increase in TC. But wanted to see if I should leverage the new salary with current company to see if they'll match.

Background: got a promotion at current company that didn't come with sufficient increase . After stating my case I was told it would be evaluated next October, which is what prompted the initial job search.

Current TC 103K [88/15], offer 125k base [+discretionary bonus].

I applied to a job at KPMG and did the first two rounds of interviews, general interview, then case study and competency. Never before have I had such a positive feedback at the end of an interview of the 2nd, both said really like me, I did well etc.
It's now been 3 weeks since the interview and I still haven't heard back from the team other than the odd HR email saying they are following up with them. Is there something going on internally, I.e hiring freeze in the London office atm?
