You're not doing it right if the portal is cheaper than transferring points. Save the points for when there's a good redemption.
As for booking travel, I'd always book direct, especially international. If something goes wrong and you booked through a portal, good luck.....
I was trying to use them for four round-trip flights during Christmas to Taiwan. I know that there’s not going to be the best deals during peak travel season. I’m trying to wave the savings for using the portal versus the risk of a headache with international travel and delays.
If you book via chase portal you’ll still earn airline miles for the flight.
If you’re having to use more miles to transfer to an airline then you’re not optimizing program and ROI.
Opportunity cost isn’t great and I’d save the points for better redemptions
If you book direct you’re the airline’s customer. If you book through a portal, the portal is their customer.
Thank you!
