Some people will be happy to make that much if they've been unemployed for over a year. Does it stick? Yes. Is it enough too live on? No. Is it better than $0. Absolutely. I've almost accepted less than half what I made before. I'm having a hard time people paying anywhere close to what I was paid before. Harsh reality.
Same boat I am currently in. 20+ years of experience, but without a piece of paper, can't even get to the interview.
I'm interested
on’t apply for low-service jobs. That pay range is for service dispatchers, reception, low-end residential cleaning, dog sitting, or overnight elder care. It’s mostly driven by what people can afford to pay for a service.
Find an area where people have money and can pay for the service, and work in a role that either drives top-line revenue or directly reduces expenses. Don’t work in direct labor roles, which severely limit how much you can leverage your time, or in overhead roles with vague or unmeasurable impact on expenses. Most importantly, understand that it’s not the company’s fault. The market controls wages. It is your responsibility—you are 100% in control of what you earn and what you apply for.
If you don’t know how to find jobs that pay more per hour, spend your time learning that first.
I totally agree. Switching paths is a great idea. I worked as a caregiver in 2021 making about $12.50 per hour. Granted it was about 2 hours away from where I am now which has a higher cost of living. Worked all through covid. Lost many residents, kept them comfortable, did wound care, passed meds. They do not make enough which is why often times they are not cared for like we would want them to. That field needs better workers and a higher wage. Luckily I fell into sales. Never thought I'd be good at it. My first position was at a company that had very high turn over which allowed me to bring in the majority of the sales over the three years while also training new employees and taking over managerial duties, By the time I was recruited by their competitor, I was able to show why I am worth what I asked for which was higher than what they have ever paid for this position.
Heavily, heavily depends where you live.
I could write a book on work ethics, experience, training and education. I have 40 years of experience mostly in the Financial & InsuranceSector. I made 6 figures before my present position. I was hired in 2016 as a Pharmacy Tech for 10/hour. Last year I was somewhere at 18+/hour and they went through a a review that came to an averaged score. I received a raise of 30 cents A former CHFC, and other designation I won’t name. Ive offered concrete sales ideas to boosts salesNo, only corporate can make changes. Where has capitalism, individualism and some risk taking for gain gone to in our country the USA? The CEO of our company who successfully screwed it up over 3 years was making 6mma year and Im sure had agolden parachute. At73 Im still young and bright enough to produce positive assets for a-forward looking company
Come armed with stat - use a pay survey like Robert Half, Mercer, or Payscale. Look at your location, the industry, and experience level to give you a rough estimate of fair pay.
You then say to this question "Is this negotiable? Based on my research and experience, pay survey from 'ABC Company' says market average in 'City' for 'Role' is $XX/hour".
In today's economy, it's a hard to live of salary - but if they aren't open to negotiating now. Ask for a performance and comp review in 6 months, and get it written into your offer, or via email.
You can live on $23/hour, just not extravagantly.
@sales associate oooooh wow, you only picked the most expensive state in the union. pOiNt MaDe
That is low
23 an hour is right above poverty level where I live. Employers are taking advantage the economic collapse.
Had to take 21.50 an hour with insurance that costs 27% of the wage. 45% pay cut. I can't escape it either.
